What we do

GDF partners with local churches to empower and equip them to effectively offer emotional and practical support to families and individuals within their community. There are many that face loneliness, challenges and difficulties in their lives and GDF supports churches as they befriend and welcome them into their church community. From within the church family volunteers will be trained as Community Connectors to come alongside families and individuals in need. The church supports this work by praying and welcoming the befriended families into their church family.

Who we help

We support families and individuals in the community who need help and support in many different situations including, family crisis, a new baby, illness, death of a loved one, loneliness, financial worries, isolation, poverty, homelessness and addictions.

Why churches need us

We are Christians who want to bless our communities through partnering with the church. Jesus has a message of love and hope that can bring transformation and we are His hands and feet to bring this to others.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favour has come. ” (Luke 4: 18-19).

Green Door Families helps churches to make contact with people in their communities who walk past the church every day but have no way to make a connection. We work with agencies who signpost families and individuals in need of support and we will introduce them to community connectors within your church so that they can befriend them and welcome them into your church family.

Green Door Families provides continuous monitoring and support for the community connectors and will network with local agencies, make promotional literature available and are a credible and trusted source of support within the community.

Green Door Families takes community connectors through a process that involves endorsement from their church leader along with independent references, a ‘getting to know you’ interview and a DBS check.  This brings credibility and trust to this work and all involved can be assured that safeguarding both those in need of support and community connectors is taken very seriously.

“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you
not only the gospel of God but our lives as well”

1 Thessalonians 2: 8 (NIV)

What do Community Connectors do?

Community Connectors are under the umbrella of the local churches working with GDF. The support for families is
provided through the matching of a community connector from within the church who has completed a safe
recruitment process including DBS check and training.

Our community connectors have helped in many ways such as:

  • Enjoying a coffee together at the church coffee shop or in the home
  • Accompanying a parent to the toddler group or a walk in the park
  • Visiting an elderly person in their own home
  • Helping with shopping , tidying or cleaning the house
  • Taking to an appointment
  • Clearing rubbish with a trip to the tip
  • Helping a young family enjoy time together
  • Baking a cake
  • Talking and listening

Green Door Families works to bridge the gap between Jesus and the most vulnerable in our communities. Requests for help for families who need support come from social care professionals to Green Door Families and our Community Connectors go to visit, help and befriend where they can.

Could you be involved in reaching out to those on our doorstep?

If you are over 18 years of age, you can apply to be a Community Connector.  Each Community Connector will go
through the safe recruitment process and, as part of that, will receive training and ongoing support.

Prayer points

Please join us in praying for the work GDF is doing and for future involvement with more local churches and families that we can help. Here are some prayer pointers to help you pray:

For the families and individuals being supported.

To empower and equip members of the church to befriend people in their neighbourhoods, enabling them to show Christ’s love to the broken and hurting.

To have opportunities to speak about Jesus.

To know where God is leading and in all we do to glorify Him.

For funds to meet the need. If we are to grow and reach out to more families and individuals in a wider area, consideration of paid staff will be needed.

For new churches to catch the vision of Green Door Families and join with us in reaching into the community.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"I have been working alongside this charity ever since it started and they have been excellent in the level of support that they have given to the clients that I have referred to them... to support individuals who are often socially isolated and facing times of crisis due to family events, debt, health, etc."
